Case
During my internship at the Berlin design agency e27, one of the executives unexpectedly asked me if I could come up with an additional idea for the Deutsche Filmakademie logo — on the spot. The designs were to be presented to the board in just one hour.
This sketch was the outcome, and it eventually became the official logo, representing the Deutsche Filmakademie from its founding in 2003 until 2017.
Idea
Design of the logo was inspired by the classic theater curtain found in vintage cinemas, which would open just moments before a film began. This symbolic element reflects the anticipation and excitement of storytelling in cinema, capturing the essence of film education and artistic expression. The logo visually represents the gateway to the world of filmmaking, embodying both tradition and creativity, while emphasizing the academy’s role in preparing future filmmakers for the industry.

Evolution
The logo was used on numerous occasions in different variations. It also served as the foundation for the logo of the Deutscher Filmpreis, widely regarded as the most prestigious award in German cinema.
